The Wandering Mind

Yesterday at Mass, I snapped out of my daydream and realized that I had missed listening to the gospel. I had many things on my mind and I guess these thoughts had pulled me far away from where I should be.  It made me think of a recent experience.

While on retreat, my discussion group spoke about prayer. I told the group about the tendency of my mind to wander while praying. As a person who likes to multitask, I often bite off more than I can chew. I confessed to the group that my prayer life may suffer because of this.

A girl in our group,Caitlin, gave me her perspective on prayer. She felt that the objective of prayer was to take the time to work things out with God even if it meant that we were not always talking directly to Him. This was a chance to bring our burdens to the Lord and allow Him to assist us in solving some of life's greatest problems. Caitlin made me feel better about my doubts in my relationship with God.

We all need to focus more on God, especially in light of all the craziness in the world. No matter how distracted you may be, never hesitate to speak to Him. Use this Lent to open your heart to your Creator. Even when there are a million thought racing through your mind,  include God as you sort through your problems.
