Death and Dying

These are dark days in Mr. Basile's class. My students groan, "We aren't going to watch those videos on death again are we?" Young people want to avoid discussions on death. As a matter of fact, no one wants to discuss this subject. I plead with my young friends that when we understand the meaning of death, we will finally understand the value of life.

We waste too many days involve in narcissistic nonsense. We omit entering into true communion with the people who really matter. We rush towards the next weekend or holiday expecting the magic to begin.

Take a moment to count your blessings. Walk in the winter air and focus on each breath you take. Have a little chat with your best friend and thank Him for the gift of another beautiful day.

Thinking about death makes each day sweeter. For those of us who have experience a great loss, anticipate the wonderful life with God that awaits all of us. Pray for those who have died. Pray for those who are sick. Pray for the courage when you are faced with difficulty.

God never gives us more than we can handle. When life becomes rough, hold on to Him even tighter. Live today as if it's the greatest gift.
